Why Cobalt?

Due to unique elemental properties, cobalt is a key component of the Green Revolution. Enabling safe and high energy density batteries, the power of cobalt, along with several other energy metals, keeps your lithium-ion battery running. The three most powerful cathode formulations for lithium-ion batteries all need cobalt:

  • Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO)
  • Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC)
  • Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA)

The world is embracing the EV revolution, and increasing EV penetration rates will keep demand strong. In the new era of batteries, cobalt's high density and thermal profile are key to a super EV battery.

Uses for Cobalt Include:

  • Lithium-Ion Batteries found in Electric Vehicles, Laptop Computers, Mobile Devices (Tablets, Smartphones, etc.), and Power Tools.

  • Superalloys found in Turbine Blades, Jet Engines, Gas Turbines, Prosthesis, and Permanent Magnets.

Importance of Cobalt in Batteries:

  • Lightweight and rapidly rechargeable

  • Safety, Stability, and Longevity of the battery

  • High density of power from a small amount of space

Our Projects

La Cobaltera and Carrizal Alto are funded for a full exploratory drilling program. In the near term, C3 will work to completely define the ore body and produce a cobalt and copper reserve profile. Our production target is early 2022. Interested in learning more about this project?
